Bologna Exposition Artists
Bologna, Italy is the place where aspiring illustrators gather each year to present their works to visiting publishers, authors and reviewers. Around 1400 artists submit portfolios to the panel of judges who will select about one out of every ten to be featured in that year's exhibition. Two catalogs are prepared: one of works created for non-fiction and the other of works created for fiction.Works are chosen for their technical merit, originality and child appeal. For many of the participants this marks the beginning of their career as an illustrator. The books listed here are Bologna Exhibition winners of the last 10 years. The Arthur Rackhams, Kate Greenaways and Howard Pyles of tomorrow are very likely on this page today.
