Chicago: My Bookhouse, 1927. 191 pages, endpapers illustrated with map of France, Covers in grayblue with paste-up of a drawing based on a painting by Francois Drouais hanging in the Louvre. These are among the best of the Petershams' illustrations. Poems and songs translated into English from the original French, all of them over 100 years old, about shepherdesses, peasants and princes, villagers and sailors, lawyers and millers, carpenters, duchesses and beggars, soldiers and thatched roofs, Gothic church spires, and flowery meadows. . Tips and spine ends slightly rubbed. Decorative endpapers and book interior are very good. Pages have age-toning. with some browning . Otherwise interior unmarked, un-marred.
