Jeanette Winter has illustrated more than 50 books. She has twice been the recipient of the American Illustrators Guild Award. The first book she wrote and illustrated was the 1968 "Christmas Visitors," based on a Norwegian folk tale. Winter is the mother of two sons, one of whom, Jonah, is a children's author as well. .In all, she has illustrated over 50 books. She lives in Frankfort, Maine.

Grandmama works in a drugstore, and the two help with the harvest at a peach farm, but these are minor economic notes.
