Portfolio of Colored Plates, 1914 Bookman.
A portfolio of three color plates produced for the Bookman Special Christmas Number of 1914. Size of portfolio 13 x 8 1/4 inches. An important portfolio containing one tipped-in, color plate from Kay Nielsen's most famous book, East of the Sun and West of the Moon. The other color plates in this portfolio are by Edmund Dulac and Hugh Thomson. The accompanying image shows the Nielsen plate in the portfolio. The front cover of this portfolio has the Kay Nielsen designs found on the endpapers of the 1914 1st edition of East of the Sun and West of the Moon. Tall Quarto-sized stiff-paper wraps portfolio in Very Good+ condition containing three full-colorplates mounted on thick paper stock. A previous owner of this portfolio (and one other in our inventory) apparently decided to bind several of them togeter. There are six nicks at the spine where string ties had presumably been placed.
No writing or marks; no torn or missing pages; no ownership markings; light wear to corners of pages- no wear to plates Original thick stock paper cover with beautiful brown color illustrations and designs on front with black lettering; light browning to cover paper (especially near edges); three very small (1mm in length) edge tears on rear upper edge of cover have been repaired with archival tape on the inside; creasing and wear to spine edge area; A solid and VERY attractive copy of this rare portfolio! Tall Quarto-sized stiff-paper wraps portfolio containing three full-colorplates mounted on thick paper stock. No writing or marks; no torn or missing pages; no ownership markings; no wear to plates themselves; browning to paper, mostly in areas near edges; small tear at upper right hand corner to mounting paper on last plate with no loss; Original thick stock paper cover with beautiful green lettering and designs on front; light browning to paper near edges; The covers have been refastened atthe spine with artist's tape. Otherwise the plates and their mounting sheets are without blemish. A solid and attractive copy of this rare portfolio containing 3 color plates rendered by Edmund Dulac illustrating Nathaniel Hawthorne's Tanglewood Tales ! Extremely Rare. Containing Plates in Color from Eleanor Fortescue Brickdale's Golden Book of Famous Women. Published by Hodder and Stoughton, London, Toronto and New York. 13 x 8.25 inches. Buff-coloured card folder containing three prints of characters featured in Brickdale's "Golden Book of Famous Women". The three colour plates are of Petrarch's Laura, Goldsmith's Olivia, and Tennyson's Maud. Some discoloration and wear to top edge of backing cards, but prints themselves are unaffected.
