Reproduced on page 113 of The Violet Fairy Book, London: Longman's, Green & Company, 1897. Henry Justice Ford was born in 1860 and began his association with Andrew Lang in 1889 when he began doing most of the illustrations for Lang's Coloured Fairy Book series. The Violet Fairy Book was the seventh of 12 books in this series. Early H.J.Ford drawings for the Lang colored fairy books are very scarce. This drawing is an especially lively example of Ford's work and is in fine condition with no fading of the black ink or toning of the white background. Price $4200.00 |
