Reproduced as a full, double-page color illustration on pages 42-43 of the book, The Girl Who Cried Flowers, New York: Thomas Y. Crowell Company, 1974. This book is generally considered to be Palladini's best and the drawing offered here is one of the most attractive in the book. Palladini drawings seldom come on the market as the artist was very reluctant to sell his original art. Note: This piece of artwork was too large for our scanner. The attached image, from the double-page book illustration, shows only the central part of the drawing. $3000

Sullivan, Edmund
All's Well That Ends Well
Conte pencil on illustration board. Signed. 14 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches. One of a series of drawings for a two-volume set of the works of Shakespeare published by Dutton in 1911. E.J. Sullivan is thought by many to be one of England's greatest illustrators. Gordon Ray says in his book, The Illustrator and the Book in England from 1790 to 1914, that, "Sullivan's career as an illustrator was one of the most substantial and distinguished in the annals of English art." Ray also quotes the art historian Thorpe as saying Sullivan was "....the greatest illustrator that this country (England) has produced." $900

This is a fine example of original illustrative artwork by Austen who was an admirer of Beardsley, as was evident in Austen's most famous book, Shakespeare's Hamlet, published in 1922. Price $480
